Terms of Service

§ 1. General Provisions

  1. These Terms of Service (hereinafter "Regulations") define the rules for using the online platform Linguistic Heritage (hereinafter "Platform"), operated by Linguistic Heritage Institute Inc., located at 9888 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5J 5C6, Canada.
  2. These Regulations constitute a binding agreement between the User and the Institute. By creating an Account and using the Services, the User confirms that they have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Regulations.
  3. The Platform is intended for educational and research purposes. All content provided is for informational use and does not constitute professional advice. The Institute is not liable for any actions taken based on the information provided on the Platform.
  4. The Institute reserves the right to amend these Regulations at any time. Users will be notified of any significant changes via email or a notice on the Platform. Continued use of the Services after such changes constitutes acceptance of the new Regulations.

§ 2. Definitions

  • Platform – The online educational service available at linguisticheritage.ca, providing access to academic content and resources related to linguistics.
  • User – Any natural person with full legal capacity who creates an Account and uses the Services provided by the Platform for non-commercial purposes.
  • Account – An individual user profile created during registration, allowing access to the Platform's Services after logging in with a unique email and password.
  • Services – All features, content, and functionalities offered by the Platform, including but not limited to articles, videos, research tools, and community forums, accessible via a paid membership.
  • Regulations – This document, specifying the terms and conditions of using the Platform.

§ 3. Type and Scope of Services Provided

  1. The Institute provides paid access to a digital library of academic content in the field of linguistics and related sciences. Services are provided electronically and require an active internet connection. The scope of available content is determined by the User's active membership status.
  2. The User is granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the content for personal, non-commercial, educational, and research purposes only, in accordance with these Regulations.
  3. Reproduction, distribution, public display, or creation of derivative works from the Platform's content without prior written consent from the Institute is strictly prohibited. All content is protected by copyright laws.
  4. The Institute will make reasonable efforts to ensure the Platform is available 24/7, but does not guarantee uninterrupted service. Maintenance or technical issues may result in temporary downtime.

§ 4. Technical Requirements

  1. To use the Platform, the User must have a device with internet access and a modern web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) with JavaScript and cookies enabled. The Institute is not responsible for equipment or software failures on the User's side.
  2. The User is responsible for ensuring the security of their login credentials (email and password) and for any activity that occurs on their Account.
  3. The User must not attempt to disrupt the proper functioning of the Platform, including through the use of malware, viruses, or excessive network load.

§ 5. Rights and Obligations of the User

  1. The User agrees to provide accurate and current information during registration and to keep this information updated. The User may not use false identities or create an account for anyone other than themselves.
  2. The User is obliged to use the Platform in accordance with applicable laws and these Regulations. The User must not post or transmit any unlawful, defamatory, or obscene material through the Platform's communication channels.
  3. The User is solely responsible for all activities conducted through their Account. The User must immediately notify the Institute of any unauthorized use of their Account or any other breach of security. The Institute is not liable for any loss or damage arising from the User's failure to comply with this provision.
  4. The User may terminate their account at any time through their account settings. Termination does not entitle the User to a refund for any prepaid membership fees for the current billing period.
  5. The Institute reserves the right to suspend or terminate a User's Account without notice for any material breach of these Regulations, including copyright infringement or abusive behavior.

§ 6. Final Provisions

  1. These Regulations shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
  2. Any disputes arising from these Regulations or the use of the Platform shall be resolved by the competent courts located in Edmonton, Alberta.
  3. If any provision of these Regulations is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
